Abstract [eng] Architects and engineers involved in the construction of particularly complex objects, such as mega-tall buildings, have no idea how many 2D CAD drawings it would take for them to produce the full picture of the construction design. The use of 4D CAD model in construction process helps to achieve both allocational and technological efficiency. The designing of buildings in three dimensions eliminates waste of time for drawings of sections and facades. With a modern design program this task can be accomplished in a single keystroke. Quantities of materials, labour demand, and mechanisms are included in the sheets automatically, thus mistakes and inconsistencies in the economic part of the object are avoited. It is easy to monitor the planned progress of construction process, for example, to see how the construction in progress will look after half a year. It reduced likelihood of mistakes in construction, the correction of which would increase time and costs required. Automatic job scheduling allows consistent planning of the capacity of employees and the construction. Compared to 2D CAD, 4D CAD gives on average 7% greater completion of the object being constructed (when the time limit for construction is the same). Compared to 2D model, the 4D model requires 12 % rarer access to building project information. When using the four-dimensional model in the process of construction, probability of mistakes decreases by 40 %. It has been found that use of the 4D model helps to shorten the duration of the construction process on average by 7 %. It also improves understanding of the construction process on average by 14 % (in all segments of the construction process chain), decreases the time needed to read drafts of the project on average by 8 %, and shrinks time spent on corrections of construction mistakes by 67 %, compared with the use of a two-dimensional model.
