Abstract [eng] The aim of the article is to analyze the efficiency of the usage of sleep by highly skilled basketball players after experiencing huge physical loads in order to speed-up the regeneration process. It has been found that with increase in physical load the duration of athletes' sleep at night and in daytime also increased. During the microcycle that is the most difficult in terms of adaptation to physical load, the individuals of the targetbgroup, mused to sleep almost 10 hours. The athletes who fall asleep earlier get more benefit from the deep sleep phases. Those who fall asleep later should change their behaviour, circadian rhythm, and try to go to bed earlier. The volume of training realized in the preparatory period was higher than the one recommended for the athletes of such mastery. The trends of the change in intensity of physical load corresponded to the ones recommended for athletes of such level. The formation of the contents of the microcycles of the preparatory period slightly differed from the model one. Huge physical load has negative impact on the quality of falling asleep in daytime and at night and also on the quality of sleep in a daytime and at night. Highly skilled basketball players do not take a proper advantage of sleep as the factor that induces regeneration.
