Abstract [eng] In spite of the fact that decentralisation is appreciable in preschool education, the organisation of educational process and social security is still rigid and it is difficult to adapt it to family needs. A kindergarten today is more than an institution of socialization: it is an educational environment as well. If an educational environment is prepared professionally, the educational process needs less teacher’s inspiration. However, educational environment should not be unified, standardized or overstructured. As it is stated in national and international documents, environment in a preschool should be close to home environment to enable full satisfaction of natural needs, rights and interests of children. Results of research carried out in Lithuania give fairly contradicting facts. Some researches show that educational environment in preschools does not correspond to preschool education models and forms of educational assistance. Diversity of educational environment is not sufficient. The aim of the research is to identify the factors influencing educational environments in typical preschools of Lithuania. The main method is analysis of national documents. Conclusions. The investigated documents commonly include regulations of child’s custody, safety and health. The educational aspect is poorly expressed, there is a lack of accurate and clear requirements for establishing educational environment, and educational environments outdoors are not adequately discussed.
