The paper analyzes the students’ experience gained during the activity study. The analysis is based on their written unstructured reflections. The activity study has been carried out with the Šiauliai University Art Faculty Music Pedagogy second year students (N=18). The aim of the study has been to highlight the possibilities for integration of active teaching/ learning methods (projects, creation, and improvisation) into music pedagogy studies at university. Research methods: theoretical analysis of scientific literature and education documents; activities analysis; qualitative content analysis. The results of the study have helped to reveal students’ positive experience related with the application of active teaching/ learning methods, integration of an experimental education program into the study program and have highlighted the factors affecting the efficiency of students’ teaching/ learning. The experience gained during the activity study has helped to develop future music teachers’ cognitive interests, professional competence, to improve their common skills and to foster their values. The study has revealed educational factors of integration of active teaching/ learning methods into future music teachers’ studies, which are associated with deep teaching/ learning, integrity of curriculum, experiential learning, promotion of motivation and self-expression, and practical application of the gained experience. Analysis of the students’ reflections has helped to highlight music improvisation application efficiency in improving music teachers’ professional competence areas (accompaniment, improvisation, mastering the musical instrument) as well as encouraging authenticity of thinking and creativity.
