Abstract [eng] The article analyses the theme of the tree in the book of the 20h century author John Fowles The Tree on the basis of the reception theory. The literary context of the allegory The Tree was given and the meaning of the chosen autobiographical essay for general literature was emphasized. In the article it is sought by using the text analysis methods of the German reception theoretician Wolfang Iser to discuss semantical aspects of the chosen work related to the theme of the tree. The variety of four perspectives (the narrator’s perspective, the hero’s perspective, the subject perspective and the fictional hero’s perspective) has been discussed emphasizing the motive of the tree. The reader of Fowles’ book The Tree is between four perspectives and has to reflect the distinction of the tree theme, the narrator’s activities while seeking to find the tree theme distinction, reminding of the behaviour’s positive moments, avoidance of the scrupulous scientific knowledge and cultural values. None of the mentioned perspectives is dominating, because their interaction gives significance to the understanding of the text while the reader analyses the work. Literary allusions are given in a specific sequence starting from allusions about the written novels, and concluding with references to other literary works. The selection and analysis of the out-of-text systems allows understanding the author’s intention better.
