Abstract [eng] Historically and traditionally, child care has always been a sensitive and urgent public issue, inseparable from compassion and altruistic aid to a close person. Statistics show that every year more and more children from dysfunctional families are given state custody. Recently, our country focuses on social integration of children, who are living at care homes, in society. In this context, great significance is given to individual social skills, because through their development a child improves individual social functioning capabilities, he is enabled to participate efficiently in social activities and fully in our society. The object of the study is social skills of young adolescents (12-14 years) at care home. The aim of the study is to explore child care home experts’ opinion about die young adolescents’ (12-14 years) social skills peculiarities. For this study a questionnaire was used to gather empirical data, it was distributed to professionals working at child care home. There were 82 respondents included in this study. The study was conducted at Radviliškis, Šiauliai and Kuršėnai care homes. Analysis of research data has shown that still insufficient attention is given to development of social skills of children at care home. Young adolescents do not have adequately developed perceptual, communicative, and interactional activities and cooperation, their self-sufficiency skill level is low. Furthermore, passive forms of leisure while having free time are chosen. Qualitative analysis of the results of empirical research has revealed that pupils who already left the care home because they are of age are characterized by negative features of social life, they have great difficulties in adaptation and social integration in society.
