Abstract [eng] The travel sketchbook The Frigate “Pallada” by Ivan Goncharov is attributed to the most significant literary pieces on travels of the 19th century. Travel sketches are characterised by richness and density of text: with every new page, new situations, undiscovered and unexplored spaces are being disclosed. With a new force, every time an individual’s body becomes open to surrounding objects for merger, self-expression in them and through them. The contact of a body with the living world becomes more intensive, one’s sensual and kinaesthetic “powers” become stronger. The relationship developed in The Frigate “Pallada” becomes close to the equal “communication” of two bodies (an individual and the world). The subject touches and is being touched, sees and is seen. In this individual’s dialogue with the world, an important role is given to the market space. The market space involves a subject into the circle of senses, while constantly providing conditions for touching, seeing, smelling. In this space, the individual’s merger, “cohesion” with the world is being constantly maintained and ensured. The parallel between the homey and the extraneous is drawn in travel sketches. Various market spaces are perceived and accepted through constant comparisons with the home (own) market space. Thus, the market which is in the home space appears in the text through the remembrance modality.
