Abstract [eng] Proper nouns or names are words or word units nominating certain objects without referring to their peculiarities, i.e. they do not denote a concept. Proper nouns are used to distinguish an entity from other entities of the same class – people, geographical objects, places and so on. Proper nouns most often are divided into two groups: names of living beings (anthroponyms, zoonyms, mythonyms) and names of objects (toponyms, hydronyms, etc.). Proper nouns often demonstrate possibilities of expressiveness and are important elements in the texts of poetry. The aim of the present paper is to analyze the contexts with the proper names used in the poetry book Odė džiaugsmui by Jurga Ivanauskaitė, a writer and artist. 120 proper names – 54 names of living beings (27 anthroponyms and 27 mythonyms) and 66 names of objects (39 toponyms, 11 names of works of literature, etc) were found in the book. The analysis of the usage of the proper names shows that they take the reader to various contexts. First of all, it should be mentioned that the lyrical subject (the author herself) was a world citizen not indifferent to the art of words and especially to the fine arts. The usage of the proper names shows especially strong religious context (due to the obvious circumstances of writing the book). It is hard to tell which religion – Catholicism or an eastern religion / religions – is of greater importance. It is clear that in the presence of death, the human heart is full of everything. However, some texts show that in the most painful moments Jesus, Mary and Angel are addressed most often.
