Abstract [eng] The relationship of linguist Jonas Jablonskis with Šiauliai and the people of this region are analyzed in this article. Jablonskis’ turning towards national movement is emphasised based upon his letters, memoirs of contemporaries and other researches’ notes; also generalized conclusions are presented. In the years 1889-1896, Jablonskis visited Šiauliai and the region and in the years 1903–1904 he lived there with his family. Jablonskis was related to the people of Šiauliai Region by social activity. On the one hand, Šliūpas from Šiauliai motivated Jablonskis to participate in the national movement and awoke his national aspirations, while wealthy citizens of Šiauliai Region supported Jablonskis and his family (the Putvinskiai, the Zubovai). While living in Šiauliai, Jablonskis began to teach the Lithuanian language the participants of secret courses – pupils of gymnasiums for boys and girls. On the other hand, Jablonskis himself involved a great number of people of Šiauliai Region into the movement of national revival. He was an authority not only for his contemporaries but influenced the gymnasium students of Šiauliai and the students from this region. While living abroad, Jablonskis thought of the opportunity and tried to get a place in Šiauliai Gymnasiums. He informed his former pupils about the opportunities to get a job in Šiauliai.
