Abstract [eng] The paper deals with micro- historical research. Events of no significance or consequence in the context of global history or even the history of Lithuania are addressed. Despite that they gained a symbolic and to some extent even a semantic meaning already in the time they occurred and were recorded in a piece of literature. The work under analysis is „Linksmas pasveikinimas“ (Merry Salutation) of Petras Tarvainis (1580-1590 – 1636 end-1637 I half), Rector of Šiauliai and Dean of Joniškis, published in 1634 and dedicated to consecration of the new-built church of Sts Peter and Paul in Šiauliai and glorifying Jurgis Tiškevičius, bishop of Samogitia. „Linksmas pasveikinimas“ pertains to salutationes and gratulationes, which are a form of laudation poetry. The work was intended to guarantee everlasting glory of the person praised thus becoming as if a form of collective memory through which individuals and social groups pertain to the past. Its main aim is to glorify pastoral wisdom of bishops, their deeds as well as those of worldly benefactors. „Linksmas pasveikinimas“ praises what is happening here and now, meanwhile portrayal of historical events or particular allusions can be traced. The author of the work under analysis identifies the following social layers: clergymen of the highest, cathedral, rank and the parish dean, secular senators, landed nobility and common people who perform their own functions. Various layers of culture (religious, literary, historical, even civic), plenty of sources (antique, biblical, oral history, etc.) are intertwined in „Linksmas pasveikinimas“. P. Tarvainis contributed that the local event gained significance for the Samogitian diocese and „the status of the formalised past“ in the course of time.
