Abstract [eng] The article analyses the peculiarities of conceptualization of hope in the German and Lithuanian view of the world. The research material involves collocations of abstract nouns viltis and Hoffnung considered to be the linguistic expression of perception of the inner mental state, which cannot be directly accessed by any senses. The abstract collocations were drawn from the empirical data source, i. e. from the feature part of German and Lithuanian corpora. Feature articles were chosen because they abound of everyday expressions reflecting basic domain of experience. The method of conceptual metaphor gave a possibility to reveal the naïve (unscientific) conception of this mental state. The conceptual metaphor is understood as an interaction of two conceptual domains (concepts). The analysis of the data showed that in both German and Lithuanian view of the world hope is materialized, is related with substances or personified, less often is related to a container. The contrastive analysis of the features of concepts VILTIS / HOFFNUNG according to the level of source domain showed the similarities and differences of the German and Lithuanian views of the world. In the Lithuanian view of the world, hope is attributed the features of a thing being carried, returned or cared of. In the German view of the world, hope is more often viewed as a gift. The personification of hope in the Lithuanian view of the world typically has correlation with pessimistic views (war, disease, funeral), in German it has correlation with an active person.
