Asbestos is recognised as the carcinogen of the 1st type and is attributed to the most toxic substances. The diseases caused by asbestos are progressing and incurable. They often develop in 20 years or even later after exposure to asbestos. This paper describes the research on pilot inventory accounting of asbestos slate. The research methodology was developed. The condition of the surface of asbestos slate and shortcomings of the roof surface were evaluated as well as the degree of urgency to remove asbestos slate from the environment. The condition of 18% of the roofs of the inventoried buildings is unsatisfactory and these roofs have to be changed immediately. There are 105 613 kg of asbestos slate, the substance potentially harmful to human health, in 40 inventoried buildings built in 1953-2003. |
