The article presents the results of the measurement of the concentration of heavy metals, such as copper, zinc, chromium, nickel and lead, in the soil. The research was carried out in Šiauliai city near the highway Šiauliai- Vilnius. The change of quantity of lead in the soil during the last 20 years was investigated and the impact of the distance from the highway on the concentration of metals was assessed. It was determined that the concentration of metals in the area assessed is much lower than the maximum permitted concentration and in certain cases it exceeds the background values of the concentration of these metals. The lead concentration in most of the samples exceeded the level of the background concentration. The lead concentration in the soil did not change over the last 20 years in the area assessed. The pollution caused by the highway does not have a major impact on the concentration of heavy metals in the soil of surrounding individual plots. |
