Abstract [eng] The aim of this article is to analyze attitudes of Šiauliai district inhabitants towards global people migration in the context of integration into the European Union. The subject of the research is attitudes of inhabitants towards globalization. The main parts of the theoretical-hypothetic model of globalization are the following: global immigration; international trade; scientific progress and information technologies; global disasters; religion, traditions, trend; international organizations; international finance; international trade. The survey questionnaire was constructed on the base of the theoretical-hypothetic model. Respondents 143 were asked to evaluate a hundred propositions about societal impact of globalization. It included common information about the aim of survey, demographic questions (gender, age, education, social status and etc.) in the first part. In the second part there were propositions about societal impact of globalization and for evaluation was used scale of Likert. 392 Šiauliai district inhabitants were polled in March–April of 2004. The survey shows that the structure of attitudes towards global migration consists of evaluation of work abroad, restrictions for employment, favorable environment for traveling and people migration. The fact stating that prices of flight tickets decrease was ranked as the most positive, and illegal immigration to Lithuania as the most negative. After the research and analysis of results it was noticed, that unmarried people estimate possibility to go abroad more positively than married ones. Attitudes toward global people migration depend on education and marital status.
