Water in J. Skablauskaitė's prose is a concurrent part of woman's portrayal. Symbolism of water which shows up through a mysterious space, strange, mystic women, is a peculiarity of entire prose of the author. In "Liūnsargių moteris" a vital, independent, exotic, not aggressive savage women Brigita who is nonconformist in a civilized world and considers nature as the only exitential truth is a peculiar prelude in creating character of monstrous Kajetona who does not recognize any borders and conventions in the novel "Mėnesienos skalikas"( 1997). In her recent works ( a collection of a novella and short stories "Trečiasis tūkstantmetis" (2000), a novel "Kitas kraujas" (2002), a novel "Septyniadangė erdvė" (2004) the author also creates characters of striking, non-traditional, mysterious women. The texts are full of mystic motifs, mythological elements, images of subconsciousness, and the link with symbolism of water stays pronounced, disclosing special, non-stereotyped femininity of characters. |
