Abstract [eng] At a time when organizations are becoming progressively global and finding it challenging to compete in an increasingly dynamic environment, companies are relentlessly searching for ways to gain an edge over their competitors and enhance their bottom line. In order to determine the factors that may relate to organizational commitment, first of all we need to understand the concept of commitment. It is quite new in Lithuanian organizational psychology, although the concept is common in other countries. Commitment represents a very desirable but somewhat elusive attitude in many organizational settings. Previous research suggests that organizational commitment can have a beneficial impact on organizations such as reduced turnover, lower absenteeism, and increased productivity. While researchers have varied their emphasis, most suggest that commitment represents both an attitude that describes an individual’s linkage to the organization and a set of behaviors by which individuals manifest that link. Managers could benefit from understanding the predictors of committed manpower because they can initiate interventions when a problem exists.
