Abstract [eng] The ideas of pedagogy of free education in today’s educational reality are gradually becoming significant, acceptable and applicable. Children’s non-formal education due to the diversity of its flexible forms is becoming the environment, where the paradigm of free education can be a lever, on which the further artistic education of children will be focused. The author of the present master’s thesis, educating preschool children through musical activities and applying the methods of pedagogy of free education, noticed that these methods provide very much space not only for the development of the child’s musical skills, but also for the expression of creative opportunities in the broader contexts of personality development. In the master’s thesis, a hypothetical presupposition was made that it is probable that the methods of pedagogy of free education are effective and significant in developing the child’s musical abilities and nurturing a creative personality. In order to confirm this hypothesis, the aim of the present thesis has been formulated – to reveal the possibilities of non-formal musical expression of preschool children in the context of the paradigm of free education. The following objectives have been set in the master’s thesis: to analyse the features of educational paradigms that have recently manifested themselves in the reality of education; to discuss the expression of the paradigm of free education in the context of already formed educational paradigms; to describe the concept, aims and content of non-formal musical activity of preschool children; to discuss the possibilities of organizing music education referring to the ideas of the paradigm of free education; to conduct an empirical research in order to find out the attitude of the parents of preschool learners towards the process of music education and its outcomes. After analysing the philosophical, pedagogical and psychological literature, the relevance of the problem became obvious. In the change of educational paradigms, increasingly emphasizing the fulfilment of the fundamental needs of the learner and the necessity to form a creative personality in the spaces of education policy, there is still a clear mismatch between education policy and educational practice, as the content of education in formal and non-formal education has rarely remained unchanged. However, there are many significant pedagogical initiatives in children’s non-formal education that can have a positive impact on the further development of children’s education. After conducting the analysis of the data of the empirical research, it can be stated that the hypothetical presupposition made at the beginning of the research was confirmed – the methods of pedagogy of free education are effective and significant in developing the child’s musical abilities and nurturing a creative personality. All the parents of preschool learners who participated in the research, observing and reflecting on the process of children’s music education and its outcomes, expressed a positive attitude towards the methods of pedagogy of free education applied in the education of their children. These methods and the author’s pedagogical insights have been widely described and presented in this master’s thesis.
