The paper discusses the factors of activation of musical expression in a children’s pop choir. The aim of the master’s thesis is to reveal and evaluate the factors activating the musical expression in a children's pop choir. In order to achieve the goal, the following tasks have been set: evaluation of the place of non-formal music education in the context of general education; discussion of the effectiveness of the factors of musical expression, which are characteristic to middle childhood; discussion of the peculiarities of the pop choir’s musical activity; conduction of a qualitative study in order to elucidate the factors of musical expression activation in a children’s pop choir. The object of research is the factors activating the musical expression of children's pop choir. Research methods used: analysis of scientific and methodological literature sources; qualitative research of school-age children and parents using a semi-structured interview method. The study was conducted in February and March 2020, it was attended by the participants of the culture house pop choir "Vieversiukai" and their parents. A total of 14 respondents were interviewed using the semi-structured interview method: 9 pop choir participants and 5 parents of pop choir participants. After analyzing the scientific literature and conducting a qualitative study, the following conclusions were reached: the main goal of non-formal education is to meet the educational and self-expression needs of children and to help them become active members of society. In the primary school education phase, the process of education is focused on stimulating activities. One of the most important aspects of primary school education is emotion, which is usually expressed through movement. The child's personality is formed at this age. Although parents play an important role in children’s lives during this period, friends become increasingly important. The activities of the pop choir are focused not only on the performance of music, but also on the visualization. The use of movement and dance elements during the performance of songs liberates self-expression, the desire to create and satisfies the child's natural desire to move. The factors that mainly motivate the musical activities of a pop choir are the influence of family and peers, the teacher and the child's self-expression. The data of the study showed that the factors activating musical expression can be distinguished into internal and external factors that encourage the choice of participation in the pop choir. Internal factors include the child's interest in music, the need for self-realization and the expression of experiences. External factors that motivate children to participate in pop choir activities include the influence of family members, friends, peers and spectators. |
