Abstract [eng] |
The article seeks to elucidate the psychosocial life effects experienced by people who have epilepsy and their families. It focuses on their special needs and their attitudes as to the satisfaction of those needs. The findings showed that the families of children who have epilepsy were relatively welladapted to epilepsy, and the child’s condition affected only some areas of family life. These areas were in family leisure, in the child’s relationships with friends, and in the harmonisation of the mother’s employment with her child’s care. Adult participants experienced difficulties in the areas of employment and interpersonal relation and they were aware of inherent stigma. There was a generally specified need for information, psychological assistance, rehabilitation, and self-help groups. |
