Abstract [eng] Nowadays rapid activities of a company, its development are often based on the principles of social responsibility, related to increasing society’s understanding of importance of immaterial values. This affects the decrease in discrimination based on age and gender as well as ensurance of equal rights of women and majorities in business. However, a problem of equal opportunities of women and men in the labour market still exists and is often discussed. Especially often the problem of unjust and unfair setting of salary rates without considering most of internal and external factors is emphasized when talking about the differences in salaries of men and women. Employers are more likely to assign men to more responsible and better paid job positions, although educational indicators of women are higher than those of men in today’s society. It is more difficult for women to pursue career, they are often forced to agree to occupy job positions requiring lower levels of education and qualifications. However, it should be noted that in Lithuania, as well as in many other countries of the world, the role of women in family and society has been slowly changing over the recent decades.
