Abstract [eng] |
Metaphor and metonymy are based on our mental models and also serve as a specific linguistic instrument for constructing and conceptualizing our environment. Two basic concepts – HEART and HEAD – build a human. Head means intellect, understanding, heart represents FEELINGS, EMOTIONS or CONDITION. Furthermore, heart can be perceived as a vehicle of human body, so it marks LIFE or DEATH. In the love lyrics by Else Lasker-Schuler the concept HEART can have also further meanings: HEART IS A RECEPTACLE, HEART IS DAY/NIGHT, HEART IS A STAR, HEART IS A STONE, HEART IS A FLOWER etc. So heart is perceived as an ESSENCE OF HUMAN and as a PART OF NATURE. Those conceptualizations are universal and typical of many cultures, especially in the European area. |
