Abstract [eng] “Crisis” has become one of the most popular words of public discourse during recent decades not only in economical but in financial sense as well. Various crises are analyzed in details by mass media in German- speaking countries as well as in Lithuania. The attention paid by mass media to the global financial and economic crisis must have influenced the conceptual world of various nations and cultures and have left a trace in the language, which would be interesting to research. The subject of the research is the linguistic expression of the crisis concept in the Lithuanian and German languages, i.e. metaphorical expressions with the head word krizė and Krise representing the crisis concept in both languages. The present article focuses on metaphors because they enable the understanding of abstract phenomena that cannot be felt sensually and name them. The aim of the article is to describe and to compare conceptual metaphors in Lithuanian and German public discourse and to reveal the understanding of this abstract phenomenon that has been fixed in both languages. The comparative analysis of metaphors highlights crisis images characteristic of the linguistic world-views of both languages.
