Abstract [eng] Delinquent behaviour can be considered as normative, related with developmental issues; however, if certain measures are not applied in time, it can cause negative outcomes, particularly for adolescent convicts. The theories of both rehabilitation and desistance distinguish the targets of correctional intervention, i.e. risk and protective factors, which reflect the psychosocial functioning of adolescent convicts and are related with delinquent behaviour. Most of empirical studies focus on entirety of risk or protective factors; therefore, do not disclose which components of them have the greatest manifestation in the context of delinquent behaviour. Moreover, risk and protective factors are dynamic and effect delinquent behaviour by interplaying with each other. A two-stage study confirmed that the risk and protective factors of delinquent behavior of adolescent convicts are inversely correlated, but qualitatively distinct characteristics, which are differently manifested in the groups of adolescents on probation and in penitentiary institution. These factors, reflecting psychological maturity, aspects of resocialization, relationships with parents and peers, have different opportunities to predict delinquent behavior. The results of the study revealed the change mechanisms of risk and protective factors during the three-month follow-up. The different theoretical models, such as direct effect, buffering, additive and risk-reducing, explained the interplay between separate risk and protective factors in predicting delinquent behavior of adolescent convicts.
