Abstract [eng] Parental Authority Over Children in Lithuania: Concept, Content and Limits The protection of the rights of the child and the limits to the exercise of parental authority over the last three years have been one of the most debated topics in Lithuania. Furthermore, legislation in this area is being actively amended and improved, including the newly introduced statutory prohibition of all forms of violence against children. Despite the fact that the legal regulation of parental authority affects the majority of the society, it is very closely related to the private life of the individuals and considered to be of great importance to every member of the society. Needless to mention that the topic of parental authority is not given much attention in the works of lawyers. The Master thesis analyses the topic of parental authority in the field of children upbringing, not only focusing on the content and limits of parental authority in the field of children upbringing but also analysing the most important preconditions of the current legal regulation and its changes during the last 30 years. The meaning of the concept of parental authority, the preconditions for its choice, its possible influence on the real understanding of this category and its further regulation are also analysed. Furthermore, it is examined in this work how changes in the legal regulation of parental authority in the field of children upbringing have affected the actual exercise of parental rights and responsibilities, identifying key issues in this area and ways to address them.
