Abstract [eng] The Object of the Dissertation: the economic aspect and the role of money in Fyodor Dostoyevsky‘s works. The subject of economics and Dostoyevsky in the history of Russian literature has most frequently been associated with the financial problems the writer faced. Therefore, F. Dostoyevsky‘s researchers have not been interested in the analysis of economic and financial aspects in his works for a long time. The dissertation has introduced the New Economic Criticism for the first time in Lithuania as one of the methods of literary analysis. Approaches proposed by the New Economic Criticism (production, external circulation and consumption, internal circulation; metatheoretical/ literary economics, economics in literature, between literature and economics) have been employed when analyzing economic topics and financial problems of Dostoyevsky‘s characters in his literary works (Poor Folk, Notes from Underground, the Gambler, The Raw Youth). The dissertation seeks to investigate the meaning of the characters‘ economic relations and how the role of money changes in the author‘s literary works. Emphasis is laid on the transformation of perception of economic elements/ motives/ factors in the text. Application of the approaches of the New Economic Criticism enables to reveal the financial and economic level of Dostoyevsky‘s characters, which changes the attitude towards the well-established facts/ interpretations/ analyses of Dostoyevskiada.
