Abstract [eng] The literature data suggests that discrepancies of clinical diagnoses and forensic science diagnoses (as evidenced by data of various sources), range, on average, from 30% to 37%, thus, the meaning of deontological examinations tills remains high and autopsy is deemed to be the golden testing standard. During the research, the deontological examinations aimed at detecting doctor mistakes and carried out by the State Forensic Medicine Service during the period of 1989–2016 were analysed during the research. The data of the carried out research is very similar to the data of diagnosis discrepancies established during the clinical and autopsy studies in other countries. The carried out analysis of the deontological examinations of the period in question, men prevailed among the victims in whose respect the expert examinations were carried out. Generally, deontological examinations were carried out in relation to the services provided by surgeons, obstetricians-gynaecologists, traumatologists, anaesthesiologists - reanimathologists, neurosurgeons and physicians-therapists. The analysis of the distribution of deontological examinations by the outcome of the provided healthcare services suggests that, even in 71% of cases, the expert examination was assigned for the death of patients and, in 29% of cases, the victims were discharged from health institutions. The coincidence of the diagnoses made during the deontological examinations and (clinical) diagnoses made by the physicians who provided healthcare services was assessed.
