In the master’s thesis, the relevance is gained by the fact that the elderly are identified as a social group of society, which is identified with old age and retirement age. In Lithuania, as in most countries of the world, the elderly are a rapidly growing part of the population. The share of the oldest population (80 years and older) is growing particularly fast. The share of the elderly population in Europe is projected to increase from 20% to 28% between 2000 and 2025. Taking into account the presented statistical indicators, it can be stated that in Lithuania and Ukraine the indicators of population aging are quite high. Taking into account the constantly growing indicators of population aging in Lithuania and Ukraine, social services and socio-cultural activities, which are identified as one of the most important directions of social policy and become important factors for ensuring the quality of life of the elderly, are gaining special importance. In order to study the supply of social services and socio-cultural activities for the elderly, interviews were conducted with social workers of Lithuanian and Ukrainian care homes. The study aims to compare the diversity and acceptability of social services and socio-cultural activities provided in these countries for the elderly, to assess the shortcomings in the effectiveness of the application of these services and activities, and to propose a plan to improve their application. |
