Abstract [eng] This master‘s thesis analysis a very relevant topic for the education system – additional education and the reasons for choosing it in elementary school. The aim of the work is to determine the reasons for choosing additional education in elementary school in Akmene’s region. The objectives of the work are to reveal the opinions of elementary school pupils, parents, teachers and freelance teachers about this phenomenon. The theoretical analysis and generalization, quantitative and qualitative analysis methods were used in this work. 5 elementary school pupils, 30 parents, 30 elementary school teachers and 5 freelance teachers from Akmene‘s region participated in this research. All the received questioning data were processed with computer software Microsoft Office Excel. Obtained data shows that tutoring services in Akmene’s region are new but it is already very well evaluated among elementary school students and their parents. 30% of parents who participated in the research buy additional lessons for their children. It emerged that the main reasons for choosing additional education are parents’ unwillingness to trust school and children’s wish to be taught individually and without noise. The motives, encouraging freelance teachers to engage in this work are the wish for additional income, and individual teaching seems more preferable. It also emerged that in the future pupils are still willing to continue additional studies, so the demand for these services is not going to decrease. After having analyzed all the received research data it could be stated that additional education in Akmene’s region is very well-appreciated because the reasons for choosing it is related to the discontent with the school system.
