Abstract [eng] Theoretical analysis of the developing mathematical skills among younger school age children (10-11 years old) with average intellect disorder under the traditional system when applying elements of the Montessori system. In order to ascertain the benefit of the Montessori system for the pupils with SEN (special educational needs) during mathematics lessons, their perception of number, space, number, size and geometrical figures and other mathematical concepts was analysed. Pedagogues‘ attitude towards the singularities of the Montessori and traditional development systems was analysed and studied in the final master thesis. It is hypothesized that mathematical skills among the children with average intellect disorder are higher when applying the Montesori system and not the traditional development system. In total, 5 children with SEN of younger school age and 50 pedagogues working under the Montesori or traditional system participated in the research. These pedagogues were selected due to the fact that when working at school they directly participate in the child‘s (who have SEN) development.
