In this master thesis, foreignisms, used by Lithuanian writers – M. Katiliškis, S. Parulskis and D. Staponkutė – who wrote in different periods of time, have been analyzed. The goal of this research – to analyze the barbarisms, macaronic language and foreign realia, that have been noticed, to find out why are these foreign words are being used in works of fiction, what is their role in it. The foreign words, that have been noticed in M. Katiliškis novel „Pirmadienis Emerald Gatvėje“, S. Parulskis novel „Trys sekundės dangaus“ and D. Staponkutė essay compilation „Iš dviejų renkuosi trečią: mano mažoji odisėja“, have been put into several groups: barbarisms, foreign realia and names, macaronic language. The analysis of the foreign words, used by these writers from different periods of time, has shown that different time periods and historical facts related to these time periods differently affect the usage of foreign words in works of fiction. The foreign words used in the analyzed woks of the writers were not picked randomly, but with a motivation. They help the writers pay attention to the problems of identity search, actualization of described events or character dialogs, enrich the speech, also relates to the reader with certain associations, tells the events more realistically, describes foreign realia, the nature of a specific location and its people, traditions, exclusive national properties. In many cases translated foreign words would lose a part of their true meaning or its stylistic nuances. Foreign words and their marking also have indications of metalinguistic comments, shows the authors position, attitude towards the used foreign word and its meaning. |
