India's Changing Role in its Relationships with the US and China. The main goal of this thesis is to analyse India’s role and how it changed in the tripolar US-China-India balance of power configuration. This thesis uses R. Schweller’s balance of interests theory and the definition of states that it provides according to necessary criteria. Main research is conducted by using comparative analysis method to analyse India’s foreign policy in two time periods and comparing them. One period is set as 2004-2014 while the other is set since 2014.This thesis also analyses the roles of China and the US in the tripolar balance of power configuration as well as changes that took place in international politics and India’s internal politics. The results of the research state, that India’s role in the tripolar balance of power configuration indeed did change and that this change was influenced by changes in international politics and India’s internal politics. It is also clear, that India’s change will, in the long term, influence the politics of Indo-Pacific and the stability of the US-China-India tripolar balance of power configuration. |
