Abstract [eng] |
The thesis Japan’s Influence in Southeast Asia in the Presence of Chinese Activity seeks to examine what are Japan’s chances to be considered a regional hegemony in the region Southeast Asia. To judge this notion, the paper examines Japan’s bilateral and multirateral relationships with Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia using the criteria provided by the hegemonic stability theory of what it considers to be a hegemon. Using the aforementioned criteria, it is stated, that Japan cannot be considered a hegemony and that it’s ability to become one is hindered both by itself and by the actions of China. The conclusion is that in the future a more viable approach could be better cooperation between Japan and China. |
