Abstract [eng] Reconciliation Through the Change of Relationship with Other in Films: the Case of Forced Migration of the Lithuanian Nation The object of this research is a reconciliation through the change of the relation with the other. The problem is that there is no official reconciliation (for the conflict of forced migration of Lithuanian nation) between Lithuanian and Russian nations. The goal is to reveal the possibilities of films as a means of reconciliation through an analysis of the depiction of relationship with other. To achieve this goal, the following tasks are set: 1) to show the links between perception of reconciliation and perception of other; 2) to present the significance of informal reconciliation means for the formal reconciliation process; 3) to choose a methodology according to which it would be possible to measure the depiction of relations with other in the film; 4) to analyze the manifestation of reconciliation through the depiction of relations with other in the Russian (accused group’s) film about the forced migration of the Lithuanians; 5) to analyze the manifestation of reconciliation through the depiction of relations with other in a Lithuanian (victims’) film about the forced migration of the Lithuanians. In summary, reconciliation can be achieved through the consistent deconstruction of the other - by creating one joint group. While reconciliation must be formal, informal reconciliation measures also contribute to fostering group commonality. However, there is no informal reconciliation in the films which were analyzed. If these films are compared according to the reconciliation process, then the victims' side (Lithuanian film) as in the beginning of the reconciliation process - presents its version of events and names the culprits, and the accused side (Russian film) does not act as according to this process - does not take the blame. The fact, that the films depict the forced migration of Lithuanians, encourages the discourse on this topic, which is useful for the preparation of reconciliation. In the absence of formal reconciliation, informal measures to promote commonality or conflict analysis are also proposed for the reconciliation of nations. It is recommended that public authorities and researchers pay more attention to informal activities, measures and institutions with less visible impact. In theory, the work is useful because it theoretically shows how, in the absence of formal reconciliation, communicative reconciliation could be one of the possible alternatives to informal reconciliation.
