This Master‘s thesis analyses sports as the phenomenon which has appropriate cultural features. It emphasizes what is a sport and what is culture. Object of the paper - basketball as Lithuanian social – cultural phenomenon. Sports meaning to culture has been analyzed. The major objective of this paper is using the interview method to analyze the importance of basketball in Lithuania and conditions which determine it. Besides the method of interview other methods have been used, the history of basketball in Lithuania was thoroughly analyzed as well as the victories which made basketball so popular. The major topics of the thesis: basketball in Lithuania attracts more attention than other branches of sports. It is important to analyze why basketball is the most popular sports in Lithuania. What are the reasons defining it? Master thesis discusses the similarities between sports and culture. The relationship between sports and art has been analyzed. It also emphasizes the influence of business: why the branch of sports is becoming the activity with many show elements. The development of basketball in Lithuania shows that spectacular results might be reached only working hard. On the basis on the answers of the respondents it might be stated that basketball is a part of Lithuanians life. It is bears the significance due to the traditions and uniqueness of the game. First of all it is an active branch of sports bearing the factor of unexpectedness. This assumes that sports have to be eye catching and grasping your attention. Due to the high results basketball became the most popular branch of sports. It is not just a game that is fun to play. It has the virtues that are essential to each member of the society. These are moral virtues, that encourage communication, reaching one‘s goals and understanding each other. Moreover the game encourages respecting your own country and revealing patriotic feelings. In each period of the history basketball is revived. Due to it Lithuania is well known and evaluated. It is useful for political and economical reasons. The area of basketball is favorable for communication. |
