Abstract [eng] The effect of ,,the young athletes” program on the development of motor skills of 7-8 year old children with complex disabilities The research carried out the analysis of 7-8 year old children with complex disabilities as well as the importance of the identification of basic motor skills and their improvement in the development of children. The hypothesis has been raised that basic motor skills among 7-8 year olds with complex disabilities are not sufficiently developed; however, after testing their motor skills and purposively working according to Young Athletes program the children‘s basic motor skills will improve significantly. Applying Educational project the effect of Special Olympics called Young Athletes was established to the 7-8 year old children with complex disabilities. In order to collect data testing was used. Applying mathematical statistical method arithmetical averages and frequency distributions were calculated. The study involved twenty five 7-8 year old children with complex disabilities and attending a special institution. The main conclusions of the research: 1. In accordance with scientific literature we found out that it is important to analyze the basic children‘s motor skills in the early ages of life and with the help of physical activities to develop movements because only acquisition of basic motor movements allows the development of specific motor skills which are needed for particular sports. 2. The evaluation of motor skills among the 7-8 year old children with complex disabilities showed that all children in the study were able to roll a ball sitting with legs spread apart, to throw a ball 1 meter underhand and kick a ball in any direction. None of the children was able to perform more than 1 meter two footed long jump. 3. The analysis of changes in motor skills showed that the program of ,,Young Athletes“ had a statistically significant effect on the development of basic balance, locomotion and object manipulation motor skills. 4. It was found out that the program of Special Olympic ,,Young Athletes“ had the biggest effect on motor skills for children with mild and severe intellectual disability.
