The influence of the European Union structural funds and cohesion funds to harmonious development of Taurage region is analysed in the Master’s degree thesis. In theoretical part of the thesis controversial region, regional development and regional politics conceptions issues are examined, prevailing different approaches to harmonious development are revealed as well as the financial funds for regional harmonious development are determined. In empirical part the EU structural funds allocation and reclamation in Lithuania and Taurage region is analyzed in various aspects. In obedience to estimated indicators of economical, social and environmental state, the tendencies of Taurage region development are assessed, regional differences are determined, also the influence of reclaimed EU structural funds and cohesion funds to harmonious development of Taurage region is evaluated. Prevailing rapid economic development, environmental improvement overshadowed moderate social development, and economic - social and ecological interests were not aligned. Ratio analysis showed that Taurage region is economically weak, unattractive to foreign investors, a region dominated by the territorial differences in social development. Hypothesis formulated by the thesis’ author is confirmed partly because the EU structural funds and cohesion funds is just one of many factors which influence harmonious development of Taurage region.
