Abstract [eng] Sustainable development process has been studied for decades. Since this process is constantly changing, it is important to constantly monitor the progress. Over the years, human consumption has grown disproportionately to human quantity, therefore, there appeared a threat that humanity will not satisfy consumer demand in the future. In June 1992, in Rio de Janeiro, 179 countries attended at the United Nations conference under the topic Environment and Development. The world has moved towards the 21st century and decided to actively achieve sustainable development by signing the program\"Agenda 21\". Assessing the need of sustainable development and signing an international program led to aim at finding the most appropriate ways to measure the state of sustainable development, its change and progress. Sustainable development consists of three main dimensions: economic, social and environmental well-being. Dimensions interact with each other in order to maintain a balance between them. Significantly improved although one-dimensional parameters, the remaining two indicators may decline and vice versa. Many authors in evaluating the state of sustainable development are chosing different indicators. At the international level it is not yet fully agreed on the procedure for the selection of indicators, so often authors select indicators according to their opinions and experiences. Indicator is a tool to assess the economic, social and environmental development objectives of the country, therefore, they have to be simple, wide coverage, should be able to quantify the potential for setting trends. In the practical part of the work, according to the expert opinion was created a selection of sustainable development indicators. Researched the evolution of the sustainable development according to the situation in Lithuania after the economic crisis. It turned out that every year was dynamic and the highest rate of growth has been seen in 2011. Sustainable development assessment carried out in simple additive and sustainable development index methods. The study was conducted in the assessment and without taking into account the opinion of experts - for each indicator by giving equal weightings. Evaluated changes of three blocks of sustainable development indicators and a whole change, monitored result changes.
