The quantitative study attempts to reveal social pedagogues opinion about career designing competence that is important while planning a career, to find out social pedagogues point of view about the factors determining successful career, also to find out their self-assessment level from the aspect of career designing competences. The study involved 121 social pedagogues who are working at Šiauliai district education institutions. Respondents were selected on a voluntary basis and goodwill. The study was conducted in April, 2015. The most important conclusions of the research: The study found that social pedagogues think that they mastered social skills; but the important characteristics such as creativity, team building, adaptation in new situations are not developed properly even though the importance of these characteristics are understood as a necessity for successful career designing. Significant influence to social skills mastering level does the respondents’ working experience. When the working experience is longer, the skill are mastered better. Learning skills are mastered the least. Social pedagogues lack of skills while applying innovative teaching methods and digital technology and equipment. Despite the low level of mastering learning skills, persons who feel that they mastered it are between 20 and 30 years old, and between 50 and 60 years old. A successful career is mainly influenced by personal characteristics, internal motivation (the desire to pursue a career) and constantly updated professional knowledge. The least successful career is influenced by factors such as recommendations and contacts. Education, internal motivation, personal characteristics and constantly updated professional knowledge are the primary factors in a successful career. Thus, factors that influence successful career is directly related to career designing competencies that determine skills. Social pedagogues, from the aspect of career designing competences, evaluate their professional preparation positively. High preparation evaluation of social pedagogue profession is directly related with social educators experience – the longer the working experience is, the preparation for professional activity increases. The hypothesis that social pedagogues preparation for professional activity from the aspect of career designing competences is sufficient, is partially proven.
