Abstract [eng] |
Today, social media is a source of information, news and it can be viewed from two different perspectives. On the one hand, these are relatively free, easily accessible, and usable internet platforms with an easy and quick flow of information. On the other hand, this is a platform with little control, where any social network user can be a source, channel, or gatekeeper of the news. The news ecosystem is noticeably changing, and informational phenomena and processes are forming that change news consumption habits. The aim of the research is to answer the questions of what the impact of the information phenomena that emerge in social media is on the process of receiving news from political proponents and on the assessment of the information received. Also, to identify the impact of echo chambers on the dissemination and exposure of political news and on the assessment of the news of political supporters. The empirical study reveals the features of the information behaviour of Lithuanian political parties and political-social movements on the social media platform and the circumstances of the formation of echo chambers in these communities. Using an integrated research approach to the process of receiving political news on social media, the different factors that characterise the formation of an echo chamber are investigated and evaluated - social and technological circumstances of the formation of an echo chamber. |
