The paper conducted a theoretical analysis of physical fitness conception and physical fitness functions in relation to middle rank police officers. Research hypothesis allows assuming that means and trainings planned beforehand and organized accordingly would allow middle rank police officers to reach an excellent level of physical fitness in a better and more potent way. Method of a questionnaire was implemented in order to conduct a research aimed at investigating the attitude of middle rank police officers towards fulfilled obligatory physical standards. The paper also carried out a statistical data analysis (related to description of averages). 127 middle rank police officers in total participated in the research. Empirical part investigated physical fitness of middle rank police officers. This means that nonparametric tests were employed in order determine the speed, tolerance, and agility of police officers, all of which are considered to display physical fitness of police officers. The main conclusions of the empirical research are as follows: 1. Physical fitness is an integral part of physical activity. Physical activity creates an opportunity for presenting an excellent physical fitness according to various physical exercises. The more a person becomes physically active, the better his physical fitness gets. 2. It was determined that statutory police officers need to meet high and state level physical requirements. This means that a police officer must comply with all physical requirements for his age group and work group in order to perform his work duties. Research results indicate that 61.72% of police officers take physical standard assessments seriously, while 19.53% of the officers do not. It could be concluded that the majority of police officers surveyed are prepared for and not afraid of standard assessments. Having addressed the same issue with respect to gender, it was ascertained that physical standards are taken seriously more by men, 68.35%, than by women, 31.65%. The analysis of the issue according to various age groups allows stating that 29.11% of the officers are 40-44- year-olds, which makes this group the largest. Groups of respondents aged 25-29 and 30-34 have 17.72% of the officers each. |
