Abstract [eng] Thesis title. Experience of music therapists in providing virtual services. Background. Virtual music therapy (VMT) is a relatively new phenomenon in Lithuania and in the world. No research has been conducted in Lithuania on the experience of music therapists in providing virtual services. This study may contribute to better delivery of VMT services. Objective. To reveal the experience of music therapists who have provided virtual music therapy services. Participants. Five music therapists: three from Lithuania, one from Great Britain and another from Australia. Research method. A qualitative research strategy was chosen for the research. Data were collected through a semi-structured interview tool. Data analysis was performed using the method of thematic analysis according to Braun and Clarke (2006). Results. The data of the thematic analysis were structured into three main themes: 1. Pushing into ice water: inevitability and adaptation; 2. Working with their hands tied: experiencing difficulties; 3. Leading clients: the otherness of therapeutic relationship. Conclusions. Participants felt that starting VMT was an unavoidable experience due to the limitations of the COVID pandemic that had to be accommodated. While providing these services, participants experienced feelings of frustration, frustration, loneliness due to the limitations of remote space to apply musical interventions, and to build relationships with clients. However, despite the difficulties, the participants discovered new resources, expanded their knowledge and skills, noticed the advantages of VMT, and found that the relationship established with the client in the remote space did not differ from the relationship established directly. Keywords. Virtual music therapy, online services, qualitative research, thematic analysis.
