Abstract [eng] The decline of children physical activity is a frequent theme of discussion in nowadays society. It is noticed that children’s interest in sports decreases gradually therefore the sport results of Lithuania is under threat to decrease too. Responsibility for this situation is being divided among parents and school. It is presumable that decline of children physical activity starts at primary school. In fact, mostly women aged under 40 work as teachers in primary school and rarely men. Researches of children physical activity reveal that teachers dedicate insufficient attention at physical education. And it is assumable that this is caused by lack of knowledge or by choosing other subjects as priorities. Physical education is not considered to be an essential discipline so it is being transferred to informal education category. Question is what role physical education plays in teacher’s private life and what their opinion is about physical education role in pupil’s development. It is questionable whether teacher’s competences are sufficient to conduct thorough physical education, especially encouraging physical activity, healthy life and sports. Research Object. Primary school teacher‘s physical education competences Research Hypothesis. It is estimated that decrease of children physical activity is governed by insufficient physical education competences of primary school teachers. Research Aim. To estimate primary school teacher‘s physical education competences. Research Objectives: 1. To investigate requirements for primary school teacher during physical education, by analyzing scientific and educational documents. 2. To investigate whether teachers are competent enough to conduct physical education. 3. To reveal difficulties that primary school teachers meat while conducting physical education. Research Methodology. 1. Theoretical – analysis of scientific literature and legal documents. 2. Empirical – collection of information using interview method. Research Sample. 18 teachers from 9 primary schools. Thesis structure. This master thesis includes: summary, introduction, 2 sections, conclusions, recommendations, list of literature (46 sources) and 3 appendixes. Research data is illustrated by 13 tables and 6 pictures. Totally Thesis consists of 153 pages. Conclusion. Research hypothesis mainly has been verified. Teachers of primary school seek to conduct duties the best of their abilities, but physical education is not a priority for teachers nor parents. Physical education is being stimulated mostly theoretically. Teachers are subject to think that they are able to indoctrinate children desire of movement and realize importance of physical education to human development. But responsibility is being forwarded onto family shoulders.
