Abstract [eng] The thesis carried out the analysis of scientific literature, which revealed the innovative methods of teaching aspects of lifelong learning in the context of the small towns, the analysis of the research results of public participation in lifelong learning program of the organization and content aspects. Methods of scientific literature analysis and questionnaire survey, the statistical descriptive analysis of data were used in the thesis. The study included 300 persons living in Kaltinenai and Laukuva towns of Šilalė district. Key findings: 1) The main causes of the respondents to participate in the various activities are lack of time and lack of funds; 2) There are not adequate conditions to learn, improve the choice of programs that meet needs and expectations for adults in a small town. Such reasons like a desire to retrain, hope to work, to attain a specialty for the unemployed are not important; 3) Adults would like to learn and improve foreign languages and computer literacy skills, drafting, elements of law, knowledge of ecological farming, but adults have inadequate information about the training programs performing in the town and organized educational shows, there is lack of training in the near locality. The research revealed that a lifelong learning process for the people in the small towns is concerned with their professional development needs, but the socioeducational environment of small towns does not encourage people to learn.
