Abstract [eng] Today we can hear on TV and in the newspapers more and more about the schoolchildren, who have suffered physical, emotional violence and compulsion. A lot of children feel unsafe at school. This is a big problem that indicates the need of the immediate means of violence prevention, diminishing the violence among the children at the training institutions. Violence prevention practice is one of the most important means in the fight against violence at school. Social educators and social workers can help in this area. However, social worker alone can do nothing. He/She can only partly influence violence diminution. Team work is very important in fighting against violence as well as involvement of children themselves. Research object – the expression of children's violence at school. Research aim – to investigate theoretically and empirically the causes and effects of children’s violence at school, and to foresee the possibilities of educational prevention. Research tool – questionnaire for children (216 children) and parents (107 parents). Research methods: theoretical, empirical, statistical. Analysis of the schoolchildren’s and parents’ answers indicate the places at school to which most attention of the administration agents should be paid and discipline should be reinforced. Commonly the acts of violence are committed when schoolchildren are not engaged in usual activities and when there is a lack of adult supervision: during the breaks, in the corridors, toilets, canteen, classroom, in the dressing rooms which are located next to the gym. Both groups of the respondents indicate that children use physical and psychological violence at school very often. The common expressions of physical violence are: kicking, pushing, punching, pulling hair, scratching. Analysis of the expression of psychological violence at school revealed that children sneer, humiliate, call names each other. The main causes of children’s violence at school were indicated as well. The causes were: violence experienced in childhood, violent behavior of parents, desire to be a leader, demanding attention and respect. Such factors as humiliation, offence or compulsion, being a witness of the act of violence influence the expression of violence as well. The empirical research proved the hypothesis. Children’s violence at school is a social problem. This problem is acknowledged by children and by parents. Prevention of violence at school is practiced on the part of individual initiatives of community members. This indicates the absence of integral system of violence prevention practice at school.
