Abstract [eng] The aim of this work is to present the main functions of social security law and to analyze the content and the peculiarities of them. Functions of social security law are very important for all social security law system. Functions, together with principals, highlight the social security values. It helps for the legislator to create the legal regulation which protect the default values. According to national legislation, we can to determine what the protected values are – it is a family, a job, the essential personal needs, a health. The main functions of social security law are protective, demographic and family support, economic, distribution and employment. Protective function is oriented to the protection of individuals and families. It works when people when people are faced with life situations (for example, pregnancy, old age, unemployment, illness). The aim of demographic and family support function is to improve the country's demographics and encourage the formation of families. Economic and distribution functions are directed to raising funds, forming budgets and allocating the appropriate funds. Employment function is like a help to solve unemployment problems. Functions of social security are implemented through social insurance and social support systems. Social insurance is related with social risks. This institute is quite problematic because regulation does not always conform to the concept of functions. The institute of social support does not have any problematic aspects, but in order to receive financial support or use social services a person (family) must meet more conditions, and the state must organize checks on a person (family) to prevent abuse of the right.
