Abstract [eng] The master’s thesis identifies the problem – what are the most distinct trends of (self-)improvement needs of teachers of general education schools and how are these needs met, in terms of teachers, by the supply of types and content of qualification improvement. The object of the analysis: opinion of general education teachers about the effectiveness of the qualification (self-)improvement system with regard to demand and supply of professional competence improvement. The aim of the analysis: to analyze theoretically and empirically and to justify the effectiveness of the qualification (self-)improvement system for general education teachers with regard to demand and supply of professional competence improvement. The survey included 266 teachers from Šiauliai general education schools, who were selected randomly. The survey shows that teachers are most encouraged to improve their qualification by the need for personal improvement and the need to be competent in their professional activities. Formal qualification improvement types are valued the most, and courses, seminars and conferences are usually offered. It was moreover determined that teachers are usually recommended to improve their subject, methodological, pedagogical, psychological competences and the competence of applying the ICT in the educational process. Usually, teachers receive information about ongoing qualification (self-)improvement events from the Education Development Center, school and colleagues. According to the respondents, the biggest difficulty they are faced with is events that are not always financed as well as a lack of the supply of (self-)improvement types. Teachers say that conditions for the qualification improvement are not always ensured and the supply of types and topics of the qualification (self-)improvement is partly consistent with the current needs of general education teachers.
