Changing reality of school requires a lot of changes in different education fields. One of them is educating children who have special needs with their peers. However, we are not prepared to such integration. Why? First of all, sponsorship models are not prepared for financing various types of special schools. Secondly, there are no enough specialists. And finally, the main problem is that pedagogues of general education schools lack knowledge and abilities, which are necessary for educating children with special educational needs together with their peers in the same class. Thus, the aim of this work was to ascertain the opinion of teachers from general education schools about their professional competence, which is necessary while educating children with special educational needs at school. While working with children who have special educational needs, pedagogues do not have enough competence which is necessary for successful integration of children with special educational needs into general education schools. The research was carried out in order to find out what pedagogues think about the integration problem, in what pedagogical spheres do they experience more difficulties, where do they feels stronger. Therefore, competence of pedagogues towards integration of children with special educational needs was chosen as an objects of the research. In compliance with this, bigger attention was paid to those data of research, which give information about gaps of one or another competence of pedagogues. To this end a questionnaire was prepared (with reference to the 2002-2004 questionnaire, which was prepared for the research “Evaluation of Pedagogues Professional Competence Towards Children Whith Special Educational Needs” in special education center, Siauliai University). Having analysed data of the research it turned out that pedagogues do not have enough or do not have at all competence, which is necessary for successful education and integration of children with special educational needs into general education school. Furthermore, teaching children with special educational needs is quite a new and little familiar activity for most teachers of general education school. |
