In order to discuss any problems of disabled people, we have to acknowledge that the disables people are the members of our society with the same rights as other members of the society and the same opportunities of education, work, spending of leisure time, participation in social, political and communal life shall be created to them. Notwithstanding that the principles of social integration are included into the law on social integration of invalids of the Republic of Lithuania, we still have to do lots of work in order to achieve informal integration of the disabled people into the society. According to the data of “the Research of the Society’s Approach to Disability” (1999), the disabled people are treated as pitiable, being deserving; only 23% of respondents first paid attention to a human being, but not to his/her disability. |
