Abstract [eng] Preparation for professional careers takes part particularly during the period of studies at secondary schools of general education, therefore schools have an important task to help pupils in reconciling their ambitions and opportunities, and in their adaptation to the social and economic needs of ever-changing society. Schools must provide their pupils with the conditions for the better understanding of themselves, must help them in identifying their interests, preferences and vocations. Teaching young persons to solve their own and public life problems independently and together with others, acquiring knowledge and skills for independent living, preparing them for further studies, activities is especially important today. Research object: Vocational information and counselling process in general schools of secondary education. Research purpose: To find out the opinions of pupils, their parents and career counsellors about vocational information and counselling in secondary schools of general education. Research methodology: the research methodology is based on the theory of humanistic personality (Maslow, 1970) and the theory of features and factors, F. Parsons (1909). Research methods: Theoretical – analysis of scientific literature, analysis of documents (documents regulating education are analysed). Empirical – questionnaires and interviews. Statistical: statistical analysis of questionnaire data with application of SPSS 16 for Windows, Spearman’ rho correlation analysis was conducted. The research data was classified, summarised and compared, data was presented graphically using Windows Microsoft Excel 2007. A quantitative and qualitative descriptive statistical analysis was conducted. Research coverage and arrangement: The research was conducted in Telšiai X gymnasium. Adolescents (15 - 18 years age, i.e. pupils of 9th – 12th grades), their parents and a career counsellor employed in this school were selected as research subjects. 139 pupils, 69 parents took part in the questionnaire survey. 1 career counsellor was interviewed. Having summarised the obtained research results, it can be stated that vocational information and counselling in the school is conducted too late, and quality of these services requires improvement. The research revealed that most of the pupils and their parents give positive evaluation to the vocational information and counselling in the school.
