Abstract [eng] |
The novel “Altorių šešėly” by Vincas Mykolaitis-Putinas captures us with the opportunity to reveal the topic of body experience using the access method of phenomenological philosophy. The body in this novel becomes one of the key words in the analysis of the novel which allows a new approach to the novel. The phenomenology of the body is inseparable from the experience of space and time and the relationship with the others. Therefore both the theoretical and practical parts of the paper are based on the phenomenology of space and time, the phenomenological relationship to the others, the objects. The topic of the master thesis: Body experiences in the novel “Altorių šešėly” by V. Mykolaitis-Putinas. The research problem of the thesis: what and how body experiences are revealed in the novel and what determines them. The subject of the thesis: the novel “Altorių šešėly” by V. Mykolaitis-Putinas. The method chosen by us for the phenomenological analysis has not yet been applied to the given novel; the topic chosen by us, “Body Experiences in the Novel “Altorių šešėly” by V. Mykolaitis-Putinas”, is hence the original and relevant research area of the novel. The aim of the master thesis: to reveal body experiences and to demonstrate the work of the body in the novel. The following goals have been set to achieve the aim: 1. To reveal how space and time are experienced by the body. 2. To demonstrate the role of the dialogue played in the issue of body experience. 3. To examine the extent and importance of the dialogue in exposing the relationship with the others. 4. To discover the relationship between Liudas Vasaris and the experienced others – the women. 5. To clarify the significance of Liudas Vasaris diaries in the body matter. When analysing body experiences in the novel, we discovered that the body experiences when situated in a particular space. Here the body unfolds as a particular coordinate system wherein the body becomes the “zero point”. The “zero point” is the pivot of I-experiences within space. I-body views the inner space from this perspective. The experience of time exposed the openness of consciousness to imaginative space and time. When analysing body experiences over time, we found that it was here that the experience of experience occurred. When analysing the topic of our body and the dialogue, we found that I, the other, and the object were inherent in the context of the dialogue. The object becomes something of a regular case underlying the topic and the conflict of the dialogue. The analysis also showed that the body is able to state the event and the process of the dialogue. The body is always open to the dialogue partner. Experiencing the other in the dialogue, I simultaneously experiences the world at all times. Based on the analysis of the relationship between I and the other, we can maintain that I-experiences are conditioned and altered by the other. The analyses of the topic of I and the other allows us to assume that the said relationship can be sensual, erotic, and aesthetic. The analysis of the diary unfolded as special and original way of being in the world when total body experiences are recorded only for ourselves so they can be experienced once again. We have demonstrated that the diary is a medium within which the formation of categories by time can be observed. The phenomenological approach to the analysis showed that the body theme has a crucial role in the novel “Altorių šešėly” by Vincas Mykolaitis-Putinas. |
